Fantastic night! All the poets were amazing! Congratulations to Franklin’s Isaac Duke for making it into the top 15. Great job also by Ben Payne and Jared Berrien. And, of course, to the winners. I feel like a winner just for having been there!
Our high school librarians ROCK. This event was an amazing show of commitment from our librarians who refuse to let no time, no budget, and study hall dumps into the library get in the way of what they know can tap a student’s soul.
This event exemplifies 21st Century Learning – create, produce, practice and present. These students will soar from this experience. It’s like Outdoor School for 6th graders – these students will never forget this event. What an incredible way to embody their learning, both personal and academic (some masterful alliterations happening last night…)
My husband leaned to me and said he wished our kids had had this opportunity when they were in high school…
Emcee’s remark: It’s a dark day when 8.9 is booed.
Truly, “The points are not the point… the point is poetry.” And the kids.
An amazing night. Thank you all.- Susan S. PPS
Last night was great! Me and some friends are interested in gathering some people from different schools who are into the idea of meeting regularly and sharing poetry and working on pieces to perhaps share at the backspace slams on Sundays. You can message me on Facebook if you’re interested. ~Megan Kender, Franklin
Great event with wonderful performances! Thanks to students, Literary Arts, librarians, teachers and others who made Verselandia such a success.
Could you please share the security code for accessing the photos from Verselandia?
Photo security code coming soon. Sorry for wait.
Congrats to all who bravely participated! Your poems were so powerful. It was a huge honor for Literary Arts to be involved. More pics on our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/LiteraryArts?ref=mf
I’m excited that Literary Arts is excited and expects to continue to host and promote Verslandia so that it grows into the Schnitz. I love the idea of partnerships with non-profits in the community.
I was struck by the size of the audience, that it was largely adult, and that our students get that kind of support.
I was really pleased that Jeff, which has been marginalized as a school, took the crown.
And, finally–I found the connections sweet. Among mine: that a student I taught in 8th grade transitions academy went to round 2, as did the daughter of an RHS teacher, and that our 2nd place winner is on the Speech and Debate team with my daughter. The personal becomes universal. Or something like that.
These poets were so passionate and brave and lyrical and inspiring. I loved being a judge. I wish I had been that brave and alive at that age. Took me decades to wake up to my voice. Congratulations to every one of those beautiful poets.
Congrats to all of these marvelous poets. A wonderful evening of poetry and theatre. Where is THE BOOK???
Hi there, this was a fabulous show, such great talent from our young folks. I was so entrigued almost every poet brought tears to my eyes. WOW! I thank OPB for showing this program again. I have very talented children at home, two of them highschoolers at Milwaukiie High School and I am wondering how I can get them signed up to be in any upcoming contests, or to be a part of any poetry writings. This is great. please email me if you can share any more info
